San Jose Drone Laws
Drone companies in San Jose are required to not only following FAA Rules but also state, county, and local city ordinances. Although drones are currently allowed in California State Parks, State Beaches, State Historic Parks, State Recreational Areas, and State Vehicular Recreation Areas, they are currently prohibited in the Santa Cruz District of State Parks by the Superintendent.
There are currently no drones allowed in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County parks as well as the majority of city parks in the area. The cities of Milpitas, Santa Clara, Campbell, San Jose and Morgan Hill also ban the use of drones unless granted a permit for use. The Port of San Francisco, which maintains Heron’s Head Park, also bans all drones as part of its status as a wildlife protection area. Mission Bay Park, maintained by MJM Management Group, says they have added a park rule banning drone use as well.
About San Jose
The cost of living in San Jose is among the highest in California and the nation yet households within the city have the highest disposable income of any other large city in the U.S. High concentration of microprocessor companies has caused the area being known as Silicon Valley because devices built there are made of semiconductors such as silicon. One of San Jose’s most famous landmarks is The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph. San Jose is a particularly well-suited city for Drone services due to the flat geography of the metro area. San Jose was one of the first cities the FAA adopted the LAANC system in for instant approval of UAV operations within 5 miles of the San Jose Airport.
